One Homeless Night
Poverty is an issue that is close to God’s heart.
One Homeless Night is an opportunity to learn about what the Bible says regarding the poor, the orphan and the widow.
One Homeless Night is an opportunity to experience homelessness first-hand in a real and tangible way by spending the night in a shelter.
One Homeless Night is a challenge to build relationships and reach out to the surrounding community with the love of God.
On November 23rd-24th, 2007 TCBC Student Ministries will partner with Evangel Hall Mission to participate in One Homeless Night
Evangel Hall Mission is an inner-city ministry of The Presbyterian Church in Canada. Their purpose is to build community with poor, homeless and socially isolated people in Toronto, through support, housing, services and advocacy.
Evangel Hall Mission serves people in their drop-in centre, provides hot meals for the hungry, houses people in fully furnished low-income transitional housing units and helps to meet the spiritual and emotional needs of those who otherwise feel helpless and alone.
Who can participate?
Students 12 and older.
How can you participate?
On Friday, November 23rd we will go to Evangel Hall and participate in their drop in centre by assisting with food prep and serving, clothes sorting, youth programs and building relationships with guests. We will learn about all the services that Evangel Hall offers and the ways in which we can get involved with serving the poor and homeless in our community. We will spend the night at Evangel Hall and experience first hand what it is like to stay in a shelter.
Is it safe to be there?
YES! Evangel Hall is located just south west of TCBC at Queen and Bathurst. There are security guards on duty at all times in all areas of the building. During our stay there will be extra security guards on duty especially for our group. We will be sleeping in a separate room from the other guests and will have our own security guard on duty while we are sleeping.
Why should I participate?
Because poverty is close to God’s heart! God has blessed us with good homes and plenty of resources. We have a responsibility as Christians to extend the grace and blessing that God has given to us to those who do not enjoy the same privileges.
What else do I need to know?
Please speak with Pastor Tanya or Yu-Ling for more information and to sign up.
PLEASE SIGN UP BY SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 18TH
